These crabs were 3D printed using recycled filament made by our sister company RSX along with some items in Prusa Polymers rPLA, (Not installed yet) their jewellery yes, jewellery is made from real trash collected from beaches around Townsville by RSFPV members and their families.
Huge thanks to our veteran-owned partners Spack.au, S3DP, Standfast Acrylics, and of course RSX for helping make this massive build possible.
The female crab (inspired by the Tasmanian giant crab) and male crab (based on a blue swimmer) were designed by the talented Paul Braddock and hand-painted by the RSFPV team.
You’ll find them at Site 22 on The Strand, right on the beach across from the Watermark Hotel with lighting installed for night viewing too! On display until early August.
This has been a massive project for us at Rising Sun FPV and we can't wait to show them installed on the beach.
Come check them out and see what’s possible when art, tech, and community collide!

Last month was an exciting milestone for us here at Rising Sun FPV! We had the fantastic opportunity to welcome two classes from one of our local schools to experience firsthand the fascinating world of 3D printing and drone technology.
Our amazing team was absolutely thrilled to open their doors and share their passion, skills, and daily work with these curious young minds.
Watching the students’ eyes light up as they explored how drones fly and how 3D printers bring ideas to life was truly inspiring.
A huge shoutout to our staff who eagerly jumped at the chance to teach, guide, and inspire. Their dedication to their craft and to the community truly shines through moments like these.
It’s opportunities like this that remind us why innovation and education go hand in hand—and why we love what we do.
Stay tuned for more community events as we continue to fuel curiosity and support the next generation of tech innovators right here in North Queensland!
Thank you for being part of our journey.
